UltraTube RS™; OEM-grade dual-phase steel

Industrial Tube Manufacturing is delighted to announce in November 2025 the introduction of UltraTube RS™, a new generation of high-strength precision tubing engineered for strength, reliability, and ease of fabrication.

The UltraTube RS™ is pending approval across multiple sanctioning bodies in Australasia – extends those same advantages to safety-critical motorsport use, providing a modern alternative to traditional high-alloy steels.

Developed from the same OEM-grade dual-phase steels used in modern automotive safety cells and structures, UltraTube RS™ combines high yield strength (650 MPa +) with exceptional ductility and weldability. It’s strong where it counts, yet straightforward to work with – a practical step forward for fabricators looking for consistency and performance from locally made Precision Steel Tube.

Developed to give New Zealand and Australian fabricators access to the same advanced steels long used in global automotive manufacturing, UltraTube RS™ enables designers to reduce weight without sacrificing safety or reliability – and it’s made right here.

Motorsport Innovation: UltraTube RS™ (pending approval)

UltraTube RS™ is the performance-validated variant developed for motorsport safety structures. Produced under strict process control with independent tensile testing to AS 1391, every order of UltraTube RS™ is supplied with full Material Test Certificates for complete traceability, and permanent line-marking for easy identification – providing verified mechanical performance and confidence for safety-critical applications. It is designed as a direct alternative to imported 4130 Chromoly, BS4 T45 and Docol R8.

Mechanical Properties (UltraTube RS™)

  • Yield Strength Rp0.2 (min): 650MPa
  • Tensile Strength Rm (min): 800MPa
  • Elongation A50 (min): 14%
  • Hardness (Typical): 104 HRB

Testing shows consistent mechanical properties of more than 650 MPa yield and 800 MPa tensile strength with stable deformation behaviour under impact. UltraTube RS™ is currently pending approval across multiple motorsport sanctioning bodies in Australasia, and has already proven itself in prototype builds – including the University of Waikato’s Formula SAE chassis fabricated entirely from UltraTube RS tubing.

Improved Fabrication

For fabricators accustomed to 4130 ‘Chromoly’, UltraTube RS™ provides a modern, weld-friendly alternative – no pre-heat or post-heat required and compatible with standard filler materials. Available in a range of circular profiles, with square, rectangle and oval manufactured on request.

Made Here. Supported Here.

UltraTube™ and UltraTube RS™ are manufactured in New Zealand to AS 1450 and EN 10305-3 dimensional standards, supplied with full mill certification and traceability. Backed by local technical support and fast delivery across Australasia, the range gives engineers and manufacturers the confidence to specify high-performance tube that meets today’s engineering priorities – lightweighting, safety, and efficiency – without the need to import or compromise.

Specify UltraTube™ with confidence.
