Widely used in OEM automotive exhaust systems
Precision Tube manufactured from Type 409L ferritic stainless steel is widely used in OEM automotive exhaust systems for its combination of heat resistance, oxidation performance, and cost-effectiveness.
Containing approximately 11% chromium, 409 forms a stable oxide layer that protects against corrosion and scaling at elevated temperatures. It combines good mechanical strength, formability, and weldability, allowing ease of fabrication and dependable performance in service.
Type 409 offers improved heat and corrosion performance over aluminised steel but it is less resistant to surface oxidation than austenetic grades such as 304. Light rust or discolouration is typical in service.
