Proudly producing New Zealand made steel tube since 1985
In 1985, Peter Green founded Industrial Tube Manufacturing Company Limited in Hamilton, New Zealand, motivated by his passion for charity and his discovery of an under-served market. With the purchase of a discarded Yoder Tube Mill imported from Ohio, USA, his small crew resurrected the machine with scrap metal parts and innovative design. The company took a lease on Unit 1, 278 Kahikatea Drive and in October 1985 began manufacturing tube.
The mill initially produced 28 Tube sizes and four gauges, supplying a wide-range of industries, including fencing, play equipment, exhaust systems and agricultural support structures. Additional machinery was necessary as the company grew, and slitting was soon brought in house and cutting services were added. It took four years of unshakeable belief, hard work, and investment for Industrial Tube to record a profit in 1989. This was a moment to celebrate.
The first coil was slit on the new slitter line in July 1990, and at this time, exports to Australia began. Later in the decade, as a result of the Australian operation growing, a cutting service was added to the distribution centre in Sydney.
In order to accommodate additional machinery, large extensions were necessary and to meet rising demand, a second mill was commissioned in 2001.
The company increased its staff numbers to 16, and adapted the ISO 9002 quality management system.
Industrial Tube mourned the loss of Founder Peter Green (1949-2000).
Expansion in Australia continued with the acquisition of East Coast Tube Mills in Brisbane (2004)
Engineers adapted the CAD system for drawings and further automation accrued across the business.
In 2013, Industrial Tube Manufacturing acquired the New Zealand assets and a number of the Australian assets of Stainless Tube Mills. After completing a 2000m2 extension and the commissioning of four Stainless mills, manufacturing commenced.
Hygienic Tube became the trademarked name of the Stainless Steel Tube offering in 2020. The same year the AgSteel Horticulture brand was developed, incorporating the industry leading AgBeam product.
In 2021, an annual production record was reached with the slitting of the 1000th coil for the year.
With a move to the future, the LT7 3D Laser Cutter and OTC Daihen Arc Welding Robot were commissioned in 2022. This extended the Advanced Tube Processing services offered to clients.
Industrial Tube’s parent company TGF Holdings includes Archgola NZ, Fresco Shades Ltd and Skyspan Shade.
